Sale Preview: July 26th 2025

Michael Bowman's 2pm auction next Saturday 26th July at Chudleigh Town Hall will feature a large unframed oil on board study of the SS Antonio de Sarustegui, by Fred Yates (1922-2008), as seen from the artist's living room window.  The vendor's family knew the artist when he lived in Fowey in the early 70's and they acquired this painting from the Fowey Holiday Village when it was demolished.  Bids of £500-750 are invited.

Many of the older residents of Fowey may recall seeing the veteran cargo ship 'Antonio de Satrustegui' on one of its 48 visits to their deepwater harbour between 1965 and 1976.  Launched in Vancouver in 1920 as the 'Canadian Raider', the ship was re-named after coming into Italian ownership in the 1930's.

The jewellery section will be led by a white gold diamond bracelet with total diamond weight of approximately 12 carats, having hopes of £7,000-10,000.

A certified 2 carat diamond solitaire is of G/H colour and looks for bids of £6,000-8,000, whilst a certified 5.99 carat Burmese sapphire & diamond cluster ring expects interest in the region of £4,000-6,000. 

Rolex collectors might be drawn by the boxed 1975 stainless steel Submariner with original paperwork, on offer at £5,000-7,000.

The sale is on view next Friday evening July 25th at Chudleigh between 4pm and 7:30pm and from 10:30am on auction day.
