Sale Results: March 2025

Demand was particularly strong right across the board in Michael Bowman's March 29th auction at Chudleigh.  Gold prices have never been higher but buyers seemed keen to acquire all sorts of collectors' items, leaving very few lots unsold.

A Japanese 'Wakazashi' sword sold to a local collector comfortably above estimate for £1,500.  Another local collector took the Fijian rootstock club home for his winning bid of £650. An 18thC Colonial 'bugbear' coconut flask was carved with figures and buildings, bearing the date 1757.  This attracted a bid of £700 from a regular internet customer living in the Californian mountains!

The watches were led by a lady's 18ct gold Datejust with distinctive green 'Stella' dial, which sold to a local collector towards higher estimate at £5,100.  The same buyer took the gent's stainless steel Rolex Explorer with original paperwork for £3,000.

An internet bidder from Derby made her first purchase at auction with a 1964 gold sovereign at an impressive £520!  She went on to buy a 3.5 carat Ceylon sapphire & diamond ring for £3,700 and a 5.5 carat greenish blue sapphire & diamond cluster ring for £1,900.  A London internet bidder paid £3,400 for a 19th century diamond cluster ring, whilst a local collector prevailed at £2,000 for an antique French lizard brooch set with rose cut diamonds.

An internet bidder from Kent paid £2,100 for a 1981 gold Krugerrand.  A local buyer was at hand for the 9ct gold watch chain at £1,350 and the heavy 9ct gold charm bracelet which made £1,250.
