Sale Results: September 2024

An exotic mix of items encouraged high levels of internet bidding in Michael Bowman's September auction at Chudleigh.

An 18th century Vincennes porcelain oval dish, pre-dated the royal factory's move to Sevres, bearing code marks for 1754.  Measuring 12" across and painted with sprays of flowers on a bleu-celeste ground with lavish gilding, this would originally have been the stand for a covered bowl.  It's exemplary condition attracted two specialist UK telephone bidders.  However they were pipped at the post by an internet bidder from San Francisco, who paid a multi-estimate £4,900!

A small antique oval reliquary, just a few inches long, included in its contents, fragments of the 'True Cross'.  It proved to be another eyebrow-raiser with a surprising final price of £2,500 to a UK internet bidder.

Jewellery included a pair of natural Ceylon sapphire & diamond cluster earrings at £3,000 and a Georgian diamond set bangle at £2,900.  A good 1.7 carat diamond solitaire sold above estimate for £3,600 to a telephone bidder from Newcastle-upon-Tyne.

Michael Bowman is now accepting entries for the final sale of the year to be held on November 30th.
