Auction Results: January 2020
Michael Bowman's January auction at Chudleigh confirmed yet again the strength of the jewellery market in the New Year period. The sale proved to be one of the most successful events held by the auctioneer in recent years and was led by four attractive gemstone rings, each of which exceeded expectations.
An art deco 2.3 carat diamond solitaire in platinum was bought in the room against a Brighton telephone bidder for £8,700, this same telephone bidder managing to outbid the locals on a 3.7 carat sapphire and
diamond ring which he secured for a more than double estimate price of £5,600. Local collectors prevailed, however, with both the unusual hexagonal emerald and diamond cluster ring which reached a
triple estimate £6,000 and the three stone ruby and diamond ring at £6,500.
The majority of the jewellery was provided by two local family collections. Also of note, was the gent's 18ct gold Omega Constellation wrist watch on gold bracelet strap which sold for £2,000 and a charm bracelet which raised eyebrows at £1,150.
Elsewhere in the sale, a Jaeger LeCoultre 'bee' design mantel clock reached £700 and a Japanese shibayama inlaid ivory tusk vase was bought by an Italian internet bidder for £800.
