Auction Results: March 2021

Michael Bowman’s March 27th Online Auction proved to be another very buoyant event, resulting in some notable prices.

The ceramics were led by an antique Chinese blue & white porcelain ginger jar which sold to a Chinese internet bidder for £670. A UK internet bidder was attracted by a lot comprising a mediaeval bronze candlestick stem, offered with a circular base of a similar period, paying £870 for his prize. A Spanish
internet bidder found merit in an 18” high Indian pink stone figure of a female deity, which he bought for £700. A mailing list client from Hampshire paid £870 for a 17th century ivory crucifix, also ‘securing’ an
antique metal chastity belt for £310!

The watch section included a stainless steel Omega Constellation Automatic at £600 and an IWC ‘Yacht Club’ Automatic with defective dial at £770, but these were overshadowed by the £14,200 paid by a Hampshire telephone bidder for the rare 2003 Rolex Submariner Kermit on offer. This was a particularly desirable example because it featured the ‘flat 4’ numeral on the green bezel, referring to the shape captured by the internal profile of the number 4. After several months of production of this 2003 Submariner Anniversary model, the internal shape of the numeral 4 became pointed at the apex.

The jewellery was led by a natural colour change Ceylon sapphire & diamond cluster ring. The four carat sapphire changed from blue in daylight to vivid purple under artificial light and was pursued to £3,800 by a telephone bidder from Northumberland. A pair of diamond set platinum drop earrings stayed with a local collector at £950. The Hampshire mailing list client was in action again to buy a Tudor gold finger ring of knot design for £820, an internet bidder from Kent prevailing on the 15th century gold posy ring inscribed ‘Mon Caur Avez’ (you have my heart) for a winning bid of £1,600.

Michael Bowman is now accepting suitable entries for his next auction to be held on May 29th. 01626 324071 michaeljbowman.co.uk
