Michael Bowman's August 31st auction at Chudleigh Town Hall in Devon was a very successful event.
The final lot of the auction was an enamelled gold pocket watch dating to the early years of the 20th century which was enamelled with a portrait of the Shah of Iran.
The watch was a standard Swiss product from this period, but the beautifully enamelled royal portrait studded with rose cut diamonds, lifted the timepiece into a highly desirable collectors' bracket.
Conservatively estimated at 2,000-3,000 a high profile on-line marketing campaign produced seven telephone bidders on the day from the UK and overseas.
The eventual buyers were from New York, USA and paid 20,000 for their prize.
This represents the highest price achieved for a watch at Chudleigh by Michael Bowman since auctions were established in 1986
