Auction Results: 17th March
Michael Bowman's auction at Chudleigh Town Hall on the weekend of March 17th managed to catch bidders just before the snow descended and so business proceeded as normal.
Two lots in the jewellery section stood out from the day. An art deco platinum ring, boasted a certified light yellow sapphire weighing 4.4 carats and sailed to a triple estimate £4,000 to a Plymouth bidder in the room who fought off strong telephone interest.
A beautiful Swiss enamelled locket, measuring just 1.5" high, was exquisitely painted with a female portrait and signed by Gaspard Lamuniere (1810-1865). This sold for an upper estimate £1,500 when contested by two local collectors.
Elsewhere in the sale, a heavy charm bracelet exceeded its scrap value in selling for £1,150. There really are collectors out there for charms! A finely carved Cantonese ivory box sold to a Chinese internet bidder for £850.
Michael Bowman is now accepting suitable entries for his next auction on May 19th and is available for free valuations at Chudleigh Town Hall each Monday afternoon 2-5pm. Tel 01626 324071
