Auction Results: Sat 25th March
Michael Bowman's March 25th auction at Chudleigh Town Hall attracted many bidders to the room to compete with the multitude of keen internet and telephone bidders in action. The ceramics section was led by the Royal Doulton Lady Jester in her distinctive black and white costume, that was secured by a telephone bidder for £820.
A local bidder prevailed when the 1930's RNLI medals awarded to Coxswain William Mogridge of the Torbay lifeboat were offered. No one could prevent the Brixham man in the room taking the medals on the short journey back to their hometown for a multi-estimate price of £3,500.
A modern harpsichord by the London maker, Malcolm Greenhalgh, has a much longer journey ahead. This attractively painted instrument was dated 1986 and its cautious estimate of £500-750 tempted many admirers. A German internet bidder was the final victor at £3,000.
The jewellery was led by a gent's 18ct gold Patek Philippe automatic wrist watch, of 1970's vintage, bought by a Hampshire telephone bidder above estimate for £4,500. The final lot of the afternoon was the 19th century 'Grand Tour' micro-mosaic necklace. Italian bidders were in action on the telephone and internet, but a Hatton Garden dealer took the item on the telephone for £2,700.
